Presentation Title: Human-Computer Interface (HCI) in design and manufacturing

Abstract:

Human-computer interaction (HCI) is a multi-disciplinary subject that aims to combine the human cognitive power and the high-speed computation capabilities of computers. HCI covers major fields such as computer science, psychology, design, anthropology, communication and education. It is concerned with the design, evaluation and implementation of interactive computing systems for human applications and it entails the study of major phenomena surrounding them. In this presentation, the emphasis is focused on the development of user interfaces that facilitate learning and control of devices for enhancing product design and manufacturing operations. Virtual and augmented reality developments and more recently, brain-computer interface have created new paradigm for providing better immersion and intuition for the users. This necessitates both device and interface development which will be covered in the presentation. The future prospects and directions of HCI will also be discussed.
